Supporting Communities After Hurricane Helene: Hope for the High Country

At Queen City Homestore, supporting our neighbors goes beyond selling products. In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, we remain deeply committed to helping the people and communities impacted across the High Country.

In 2024, Queen City Homestore partnered with No Child Hungry to launch Hope for the High Country, organizing a large‑scale meal‑packing event that brought together over 2,600 volunteers to pack 500,000+ meals for families affected by the storm. Those meals were distributed throughout the region—including support for Avery Feeding Families—within weeks of the devastation.

Hope for the High Country -- Part II

Queen City Homestore continues its commitment to Hurricane Helene recovery through Hope for the High Country – Part II. Following a 500,000-meal effort in 2024, we are again partnering with Avery Feeding Families and the Grandfather Foundation to address ongoing food insecurity and the summer meal gap.

Event Details:

Location: First Baptist Church, Newland, NC
Dates: June 19–20
Goal: 500 volunteers to pack 125,000 meals for Avery County and surrounding communities.

How to Help:

Volunteer: Sign-ups are opening soon for Friday setup, Saturday packing shifts (8:30 AM & 12:30 PM), and afternoon cleanup. Ideal for groups, students, and service organizations.
Donate: Financial contributions provide meals at less than $0.70 each; $30 feeds a family of six for a week.
Rebuilding Support: We have a local representative working with charities and government resources to help residents replace essential appliances and furniture.
